Back from Bermuda [03 Jan 2005|04:43pm]
I got from Bermuda yesterday night.

It was interesting. The last day I was there and today, I felt like there was a huge weight in my chest. It was the worst feeling in the world. I know why and it's so stupid, but it didn't stop the pain from going away.

Bermuda was fun sometimes. We stayed at the biggest hotel on the island, which had so many activities you could do. There was always tea at 4, new movies at 2, 6, and 9 and they served all these refreshments. And there was also a spa, which you had to pay for. So my mom and I signed up for that. And I would do the bicycle thing a lot. All the machines had TVs in front of them. And the spa was really cool, too, because they had everything you could possibly need to groom. Mouthwash, hairdryers, brushes, razors, bathrobes, steam rooms... So much of time would be spent there. I also played Bingo one night at the hotel, but didn't win anything.. And I went to a cocktail party-thing on New Year's Eve at the hotel with my family, and I have never felt so judged! Everyone was in black dresses, with their hair styled up, dripping with jewelry, and I was in a sweater and a mini skirt. Everyone kept shooting me weird looks.

And the funniest thing was that, because the island was so small, we ended up bumping into everyone everywhere. Like these triplet girls I saw at the visitor center, then the next day in another part of town, and then they ended up being on our flight to Atlanta a couple days later. And this family that sat next to me during Bingo, we saw them on the hotel expedition to the city, at the aquarium, at the pool, in the lobby, and on our flight.

Xmas [25 Dec 2004|09:06pm]
Merry Christmas!

Went to the World Bank again for lunch with Jennie, Margaret, and Sarah. And then Pentagon City where I got a cute pink cell cover that I still haven't put on.
Christmas Eve it was FREEZING. I took the bus with Nicole to Georgetown and it was sooo eerie; everything was deserted and soo cold. Had dinner at French restaurant with my family and my mom's friends, including an indian priest.

CHRISTMAS! Very uneventful. Drove way out to Olney, MD to drop our dog off at my dad's friend's house while we're away. I got a cute French Connection UK top from my cousins. It doesn't say FCUK, it says UKFC, but it's still really adorable!!

OMG, I was sooo not looking forward to going to Bermuda because I thought we were staying at this old, colonial hotel, but we're not! We're staying at this really cool place that has a cove and everything! I'm very excited!

My last obsession is polo shirts with PENGUINS embroidered on them. They're sooooo cute. They're like Lacoste and Le Tigre, only there's a penguin instead!

Yesterday. I went to Nicole's school, Washington-Lee, with Jennie. She showed us around during lunch and then we went to her French class, where we watched a movie. Then, in the evening, I went to the DC pound to look at dogs with my mom. My mom really liked this small chihuahua mix dog, but I didn't really like it. It hurts sooo much seeing people judging the dogs, even though I did it too. They look at you with their sad eyes and you feel for them... I really want this cute shih tzu named Bridgette.

Today, I went to the World Bank for lunch with Sarah and then met up with Jennie and went shopping and saw a movie. I am so upset that my gay friend at Sephora, who I just found out is named Zack, is leaving!! He's going to Nordstrom at Pentagon City.

I got my grades today. I'm really happy that my GPA was the highest it's been in, I think, 2 years.

You know you're from DC when... [22 Dec 2004|09:37pm]
You Know You're From Washington DC When...

You say you're from DC, but you actually live in VA or MD but are too tired to explain where.

You don't consider exploding man hole covers to be an unusual occurrence.

You know where the Pentagon really is but never bother to correct anyone about its location.

When it takes you 45 minutes to drive 3 miles on I-66, 95, 395, 495, 50, 123, 29, or 270, it's a pretty good day.

There are at least fifteen ways to get everywhere and you know which way to go based on the weather, time of day, current political climate, terrorism road closures, and whether you are coming or going.

You pay more money in parking tickets in a year than you do in medical bills, college costs and rent combined.

You know that driving through Georgetown, you will hear the music of the car next to you louder than you can hear your own.

"I got stuck behind a motorcade" is a common and real excuse for being late.

"Finding a parking space" actually becomes an appointment on your calendar. (E.g.. 7:00-8:00 Gym, 8:30-9:00PM - find a parking space, 9:00-10:30PM - Dinner reservations.)

You've never once been to Wal-Mart and don't even know if there is one.

When you say you're going to the mall and you don't mean shopping.

You never refer to the 'Metro' as the 'subway'.

You elbow tourists out of the way on the Metro escalators to "gently"
emind them to WALK LEFT, STAND RIGHT.

Going to work early means being there by 9:00AM.

You don't bat an eye at 500 politicians and businessmen in suits running like their lives depended on it just to catch a Metro that will be followed by another in 90 seconds.

You call it Targét, not Target, and are well aware that the one in Alexandria is just a "tad different".

When Washington National Airport is and will always be "WASHINGTON NATIONAL", not "Reagan National".
You can tell by people's cars where they live and maybe even what neighborhood.

You've claimed that there's nothing to do on a weekend night even when you have the entire nation's capitol to explore.

You have the Metro map memorized, yet act like you don't know when someone asks you how to get to Metro Center.

You meet someone else who says they're from the DC area and you realize they live two hours away from you.

You notice that there's been construction on the same stretch of highway for the past 5 years and you've never see anyone working on it.

You know you've crossed into Northern Virginia, without ever seeing a sign, only because your speedometer goes from 60 to 0.

You know that Vietnam is no longer in the South Pacific, it's now been re-located to Seven Corners.

The few times you have gotten lost in DC you have somehow ALWAYS ended up in Anacostia and every road out somehow leads back to Anacostia.

You realize that I-395 is Northern Virginia's version of NASCAR.

There is no such thing as North, South, East, or West on the beltway, it's just go "that" way!(Inner circle / outer circle)

You go anywhere on the Eastern Shore, Rehoboth, Dewey, Ocean City, Skyline Drive, or the Outer Banks for vacation and everyone you meet is from DC

Snow means rain to you

Ice on the roads just means that you pay more attention to other cars, but still go 75 mph on the highways

You can see the national cathedral from almost anywhere

You know at least 2 rowers

You know that Georgetown is NOT only a school

You consider Northern VA to be in no way similar to southern VA

You know which bridges to cross to get to Maryland or VA

OC NIGHT! [16 Dec 2004|10:13pm]
Things are kind'a down-ish... the weather is really depressing and WHY AM I SO AWKWARD? Ugh.

I went shopping with Margaret today and got a cozy, blue sweater. And, afterwards, I went to Booeymonger and got my favorite sandwich and later found out that they forgot the dressing. So I had to go to the Booeymonger near my house with my mom to go get some.

And yesterday I got a pedicure for Bermuda. Which, will be sooo boring. Seven days with my family on an overpriced island.

Schedule tomorrow:
1st. free
2nd. journalism
3rd. assembly
4th. math
5th. assembly

So only one real class. I got my term grades in math and english. Math was ehh and english was ok.

I hate eBay [13 Dec 2004|08:46pm]
UGH! I hate eBay. I was like "Yay! A Lacoste shirt!" so I bid on it, and now I'm reading the user reviews and everyone is like "It's fake." UUUGHHH.

Um. Today was pretty bad. Kind'a depressing, etc. My English teacher has be so cranky lately, but it's because no-one reads the book. Didn't have journalism because we worked the weekend, so went to Chipotle with Margaret. The line went out the door.. Everyone loves Chipotle.

I wish it would snow!

Everything was a lot of fun. It sucked; going to school to work on the paper. And I went again on Sunday and, because I was so late, they had nothing for me to work on so they told me I could go home. It sucked because the journey took an hour (walking to metro, going on metro, walking home from metro) and I only stayed an hour and it was all so pointless.
ANYWAY, TiVo isn't AS cool as I thought it was. You can't fast forward live TV. Well, you can, but only if you've paused or rewinded it earlier. So you can never be faster than what everyone else is watching.
I got a cute card from my dad where he made fun of me and put in a bunch of random "like"s. And two cute ones from Jennie and Margaret. Margaret's had a panda on it.. so thoughful!
Dinner was nice. But it was upsetting that some people didn't call to say they were not going to be coming at all. It's okay that they weren't coming, but sucked that I had to call them to find that out.
Arty = need to hang out more often!

Last week of school. VACATION! christmas. Bermuda. Back to school.

So tomorrow's my birthday... Exciting. I hope I get TiVo and a twin, but I don't think the twin will work out, unless I have she/he was adopted into another family because my parents couldn't handle two kids, even though they had Rohan right after. Anyway...I have to work on Saturday and Sunday at school on the Dateline layout. So boring... Today is really rainy and foggy. I had an assembly during my free period and I almost died of boredom! Sixth period on a FRIDAY! I might go to Sarah's hockey game today.

Boots and Ice Skating [05 Dec 2004|10:02pm]
PicsCollapse )

I love my new boots, but they literally take 10 minutes to put on. Ice-skating was so cool because it was active instead of a passive activity. It's in a cool area, too, so I really want to hang out there more often.

Artomatic [04 Dec 2004|12:31pm]
I went to the Artomatic yesterday with Nicole. It was a huge 5-story building filled with rooms full of art. Everything was so incredibly creative! Like in the stairwell, there was a rope of stuffed animals hanging from the top and a fake burgular climbing down the rope. And then there were weird things, like photographs of a girl's hand with a cut and blood gushing out and a really graphic painting showing "the act," but between two girls. And we went into a room where they were showing short movies made by artists, which all had to include a monkey and a ventriliquist. It was really surreal.

I've been having some pretty slacker days recently. Like Ms. Noon wasn't herre so we had free period. Then we missed English to go to Public Speaking. And then in Economics, our small group of four went down to the library to research our stocks for our pretend Stock Market Game. Our first session, we, meaning Janis, bought really weird stocks and so we lost a lot of money. But then, with 5 more minutes to go, Lizzie calculated the selling of our declining stock for the buying of Apple stocks, because obviously everyone will want iPODs for Christmas! And so this time, we won 10,000 because Apple went up! It's so thrilling; too bad it's not real money...

Yay, and I'm going ice skating today! It's exciting because so many people are coming and it never works out that way! I always invite a lot of people and almost no-one comes.

"cuz it's all in my head, i think about it over and over" [23 Nov 2004|07:51pm]
today really sucked. i walked from school to georgetown because i didn't have enough money for the metro. everything's changing. and, once again, i'm no-one. there's always someone that people will blow me off for. yet every single time, it stings.
i hate sounding like a pity party!!! on the bright side, i worked out yesterday and the huge gym/community center area where i used to work out with nicole. i did the bicycle thingy while studying my econonomic notes. i'm not sure if it's directly relevant, but i slept really, really soundly. and then today i did that whole walking for 2 hours thing. hopefully, that was a good workout. but then i ate pie and cake right after. a lot too.

ummm what is there to look forward to? thanksgiving party.. how many parties can my family host?! baby-sitting. office working which i want to get out of. and nothing social, of course, because i am out of the loop.

4 day weekend.. [14 Nov 2004|06:54pm]
wow, so it's been so hectic. and the two days off didn't really seem like a vacation. i went to two movies on wednesday, but they both sucked. and then i baby-sat thursday morning. those kids are so privileged.. they have everything they want. i think they might be getting iPODs and they're 7, 7, and 9 years old! and then i went to pentagon city and looked for nicole for LITERALLY an hour because she didn't have her cell phone and i had forgotten to bring her friend's cell number. finally i found her and then i called danielle and she said she was at pentagon city too. so after hanging out with nicole for less than an hour, i stayed with danielle and watched the OC at her house. missed a lot of it because my mom decided to pick me up in the middle of it and i only caught the ending when i got home.
friday morning, i went to my mom's friend's office. the mother of the kids i babysit. and helped out with filing and copying and letter-folding. it was really cool. i kinda dressed up, but i wore an off-the-shoulder shirt and it was so embarassing when she told me that i had to cover up because people at her office are conservative. then i slopped over IN THE RAIN by metro to school for a boring lecture-thing on colleges.
and i went to an indian party yesterday for the indian festival diwali. and today i bought these cute shoes!

im obsessed with food! [07 Nov 2004|07:01pm]
both my appts on thursday were cancelled because it was RAINING! i am destined to never ever complete driver's ed.

friday, went to lizzies house for the FIRST TIME and she has an awesome barn, which is 2 levels and really brightly lit and she had 6 horses there 'cause she was training a couple or something... LONGEST METRO RIDE EVER! and didn't get to see metro train crash at woodley park because i think it had been removed.

saturday, saw the DOLPHIN IMAX movie with margaret and david. it was sooo pretty out on the Mall. we walked around the area where the cherry blossoms are and saw the world war two memorial. and then i parallel-parked! but there wasn't a car in front; only in back, so it made it easier. but, all the same, it took me TEN minutes and then i got out, thinking it was down and my dad fixed it.

monday: driving?
tuesday: german
wednesday: belly dancing
thursday: NO SCHOOL
friday: NO SCHOOL
